Sometimes on a painting excursion I will finish the main work of the day and then turn to a different view and quickly execute a miniature. Often these have an additional freshness and spontaneity that I attribute to my being "loosened up" and happy at being outdoors doing what I love. Palo Duro Creek came to be in just this manner.
